MylarŪ Labels - Polyester Labels

MylarŪ has almost become a generic term when searching for for film labels. MylarŪ is DuPont's brand name for polyester, commonly referred to as PET. In fact most film labels -- whether on white, clear or metalized -- are made out of the polypropylene family of films because of price and conformability. Clear labels and metalized labels are often found on containers or packages that require some flexibilty, somthing that MylarŪ labels, that is polyester labels, resist because that film is stiffer and tougher than most. So, consider polypropylene (referred to as BoPP) constructions first if you are seeking a basic film type roll label.

Polyester is a must in more severe and endurance-demanding conditions such as waterproof environments, extreme weather related conditions, high performance requirements, extended durability, very high and low temperature environs, and applications that demand dimensional and protective stability such as battery labels, engine labels, or cell phone screen covers. Protection from chemicals, aggressive cosmetic ingredients, or ultra violet rays often require polyester labels. Married to the correct pressure sensitive adhesive, MylarŪ labels can readily meet or exceed a two year performance life in harsh environments.

To add to label durability plus the protection of the printed graphics, a clear film covering or UV coating is often added -- depending on the specifications -- to make laminated labels. A film overlamination can be supplied out of either BoPP or PET depending on cost and function.
