Foil Labels & Metalized Film Labels
What is the difference?
Foil labels
The face material is a paper-backed aluminum foil available in shiny silver or gold and only with permanent adhesive. The liner must be removed from the label (NOT label from liner!) to avoid label curling upward. Removable type adhesives are not strong enough to overcome even the slightest pull-up curl. Used primarily as visual impact, decorative product labeling -- indoor use only. Consult us when considering use of foil labels. This type of foil is also used for embossed labels. Clear film lamination greatly adds stability and appearance.
Metalized Polypropylene (BoPP)
This material comes in shiny chrome only; if needed in shiny gold it will be tinted gold in the printing process. Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BoPP) is ideal for product labeling such as cosmetics, beauty products, specialty foods, and many products delivering the "premium" message. It is particularly useful where pliable application is desired such as softer or squeezable containers. BoPP can be used in many challenging environments, but will not satisfy extremes of heat, cold, water, sun, etc. It is an intermediate material between paper, foil, and MylarŪ. labels. We recommend discussion and testing because of the many adhesive-film combinations arvailable to us.
Metalized MylarŪ Labels (PET polyester)
This material comes in shiny chrome (`silver'), shiny gold, matte silver, and brushed silver. Polyester is the toughest, stiffest, most durable and dimensionally stable of the films label printing companies offer. MylarŪ is most often used in industrial applications for those reasons as well as in highest end retail and hardware products and decorative trims. Polyester is also the material of choice for outdoor and water exposure applications. The more critical the use, the more important it is to test for the proper adhesive-film combination. Renell will supply material samples, specification details, and diecut product for testing at no charge to assure proper performance.
Laminated labels, that is the addition of a UV coating or clear film laminant adds greatly to label protection, durability, appearance and handling -- applied almost universally to these materials in the manufacturing process.
